Pics of our meaties w/ weight ~~Weight Update 10-30-08

Acre of Blessings, I got some on feed cornish rocks for the first time {meat chic} and I didn't know I was supposed to pull the feed away at three weeks they average 1 lb 14 ozs. all of them walk around good and are doing good on full feed but I think today I will cut them back to feed 12 hrs a day.

I think on the weekends I am going to leave the food for 24/7 feeding and then thorugh the week pull the food before bed and replace it when I wake up. Gonna try and see how it goes.

I would like for our birds to get to at least 6 to 7 pounds so we will get a 4 lb. bird once it is dressed. I think that would make a great fryer or roaster. 5 weeks to go. We'll see.

Didn't take any pics of weighing today but, I did weigh them.

Today they are 24 days old and they all weighed between 1 lb. 5 oz. to 1 lb. 12 oz.

Is this about the average weigh for a 3 1/2 week old meatie? Do I need to leave the food with them 24/7 or do I take it away at night? Will the weight pile on in a few weeks or will it come on gradually? Just curious.

Acre of Blessings, I had some three week old meat chic on feed and at 3 wks they weighted 1 lb 5 oz to 1 lb 14 oz and I took away their feed at night and at 4 wks they went to 2 lb 8 oz and on the fifth week I going to put them back on full feed.

Well I was doing the, take the feed away at night thing, but now I am going to leave it in there full time. I want some of the birds to be about 5 to 6 lbs and I would like some to be about 4 lbs. I am going to see how it goes by the 5th to 6th week and then I'll go from there.

If you all have pics of you meaties, please post them here so we, newbies, can have an idea of what they look like and how much they should weigh at certain times.

Did another weigh in today on the broilers I have. They are 32 days old today and the weights are ...................... 1.5 lbs. to 2.9 lbs.

Is this a good weight for these birds at this age?

I sure would like to see them be about 4 to 6 lbs live weight. How much longer before I get to these weights that I am looking for?

thats a good weight for that age at about 5 1/2 to 6 weeks of age they will really start packing on the weight they get a real growth spurt. I just processed my second batch of 49 birds and put 289 pounds of chicken in the freezer.I processed them at 8 weeks old .On the first batch I took the food away at nite (12 on 12 hours off) This batch I just left the food in the pen 24/7 and there was no difference. Chickens cant see in the dark so they dont eat however if you have a light on at night in their pen then you might want to remove the food cause they will over eat .For me it was alot easier to just leave the food in the pen otherwise they trample each other in the morning trying to get to the food

I have no idea what broilers should weigh at X days old. But, what you really should show us is in the last 7 days of their life. Weigh them every day then, and it will shock you how much they explode at the end.
