I have two turkeys that are adults, and just got three poults this week. The adults are royal palms and awesome pets. They are very tame and follow us everywhere. As for attacking someone, I have found that my tom is pretty territorial with regards to his pen. If a stranger goes in there while he is in it, he displays and sort of tries to shove them off. Occasionally he has gotten a bit more aggressive. Also when new people come on the property, if they are outside and I am not, they do not like letting them on the porch to the front door, as soon as I am out there or open the door, they are fine and they go about their turkey business.
As poults they are awesome, if a bit nerve wracking. I didn't know just how curious they were, and when they started hopping up and out of the brooder, it scared the bejeezus out of me. The three I have now are in a different brooder but they are every bit as curious. When they hear us coming they run up to the front of the crate, and they already are trying to hop out to go exploring, at four days old!!!!
Turkeys are great! Don't believe what some people say, that they are stupid. They aren't. At least the ones I have aren't. They know where we are in the house, and will come up to the sliding glass door on the back deck and knock to get us to come out. The hen loves to sit on a wicker table I have on the front porch and make her happy noises at me while I sit inside and sew. Never in my life did I think I would be as attached to fowl as I am to my chickens and my turkeys. And to think, the only reason we ended up with turkeys was because last year my husband wanted to buy chicks for the kids and they only had turkeys that day!!!!
This is a picture of my tom his name is Pilgrim, jumping for a treat
This ended up being much longer then I expected,
