Pics of your nest boxes!

We've used the same design as ChookHappy and are pleased with the results. We didn't modify the dimensions but we only have 2 of our chicks (2/6) laying as of now...

The kitty litter box is a great idea! I foster kitties every once in a while so I know I have some litter boxes laying around the garage somewhere. They will be great in my Serama coops. I can't believe I didn't think of them before, thanks greyeyes!!
Tdub - your bench nesting box is way cool! I need to start looking at un-used stuff more critically from now on, you never know what it could be used for next!

I got this 'woodbox' today for ten dollars. The lid lifts up and I am going to line the inside with vinyl and leave it just like it is. I cut a hole in it to attach it to the fifty dollar dog house I bought at the same time. I am making a small run big enough for three chickens. Will put my BR roo in and a couple of girls for him when I find them.

The woodbox is big enough that if two want to be in there at the same time there is plenty of room plus there is the advantage of me being able to lift the lid and check for eggs and clean. I put the roost in the dog house and there looks to be plenty of room for them to roost and it still be out of their way. Will line the inside of the house with vinyl also. Still need to put a lip on the front of the opening to keep bedding in. I also drilled holes for ventillation in the house. Oh, and am making a shed roof to go over the woodbox so that it won't rain on top of it and leak in....also setting the entire thing up on blocks and wood so there will be about thirty inches cleared underneath for shade and weather protection. That'll work!

Sixty bucks and my husbands t posts and wire......small wire around also for security. Now to figure out a top for the run and I will be all set with a new small coop and run before my husband gets home from working out of state. And a fine place for my banished rooster to live and have some girls.

I like the idea of hanging a cloth over the front, gives them more privacy. How do you make them know they can get inside though?

Regular old pine shavings, not the sawdusty type, but the larger shavings. Same as in the brooder, and in the coop. I just make sure there's lots of it in the nest boxes. (In the rollaway nest box, there are NO shavings, that would impede the eggs from rolling down the ramp. In there, I use commercial plastic nest box liner, which looks really uncomfortable but works great. It's plastic with directional "fingers" that help direct the eggs downward. They're open-weave so cleaning is simple: just whack 'em against the side of the coop and put 'em back in the nest box. I have extras, in case some are soiled, so I can put fresh ones in and clean the dirty ones.)

We built 2 of these cost 3 bundles of shingles that were reduced ,we had everything around here waiting to be used.

Heres a shot of some of the roost we built out of oak trees we cut down in our woods.

Here is what we'll be using for nest boxes. We found them at Lowe's. They are stack-able storage bins and seemed to cry out to me as I walked past them. They were only $7.90 each at our Lowe's and I love the fact that they are black so it adds to the cave like feeling for the chickens. We'll be cutting square holes out of the backs of each one for outside access.

I hope this helps out a little, or at least gives you some ideas. Never overlook anything, lol.
