pics on User Pages - description?

It says here that you need to put a description of you picture in when you put one on you User Page.

My question is: what does it mean by "description" and what kind?

This may be a dumb question, but I figured I'd ask.

I don't think the description does anything so you can leave it blank.

The "Title" is the text shown when someone hovers over the image, so it is good to put something there (especially to make the page friendly to screen readers for the visually impaired).

Well, I've tried to post pictures and leave the description blank, but it comes up with a white box and an X in the top left corner of the box. Is that just my computer's firewall?

Only post the URL of the image and not anything else. The URL must look something like this:

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/img/newpm.gif

no IMG tags or anything

i may be incorrect, but i do web development and i think the alt tag

alt="this is my image"


is what text readers will read when someone visually impaired looks at the page
