Well I have 5 babies and no more pips... DH and Dad transformed the shed into the coop. They put 2 windows, and a door for them to get in and out on the side. They also replaced plywood on the outside and put a new roof on... we also need to put a run on the outside so while the babies are in our brooder we'll git r done!

I love being a new chicken Mommy!

I'm so happy that they are hatching for you Kitty! Hooray!

Mine started pipping last night (day 19 if you can believe that) and it's only day 20 and I have 7 chicks out so far a zip, and lots of pips! Who knows what I'll find in the morning!

Good luck to you and my fingers are still crossed!

The chick that was pipped didn't make it. The egg was full of fluid and the yolk was not fully absorbed. I know it's just day 22 but by the look of the pip I was worried and checked it. I then candled the rest. Four others were gone and one is still alive and pipped internally.

QUESTION-How do I know that egg isn't full of fluid too? Should I pip the shell and see if I get fluid? The chick is peeping so does that mean it has air and not fluid?

The egg with fluid is a developmental issue and was not a fault of incubation.

If the other chick is peeping I would say there is a clean air cell.

I just had one hatch... ok within minutes of me writting this, and it has a crossed beak (from what I can tell) it just doesn't look normal. I'll try to take a picture... what do I do?

For the crossbeak? From what I understand for it to live, it will need a deep dish filled with food so it can scoop the food out. I think it's the same for water. I would search crossbeak. If you can't find the answer there then post in emergencies. If it is to bad or you can't accomadaite it's special needs you need to consider putting it down.

Good luck!

Edited to say: We posted together. The pic is to blurry to tell anything for sure.
