I went to a poultry auction recently and picked a beautiful Cayuga duck. Auctioneer didn't know if male or female. My guess is female because no curling tail feathers, but I could be wrong. If anybody has a picture of both sexes I would be greatly appreciative since this my 1st Cayuga.

Thanks,

Rick

Does is quack or croak?

Males have a whispering croakish voice, and females have a loud bold quack.

I have also noticed with my new cayugas, the male is very colorful and his head and neck is very distinctly more green than his body. He does have that tell-tale curled drake feather that is a dead giveaway.

Your best bet would be to listen to them.

Feathersite is an excellent source for photos.

From the above page, this is the best picture showing the differences.

See how the male is a good deal more "colorful" than the female. So, if you have a "really pretty" Cayuge, chances are it's a drake. My females have color on them as well, it's just that the boys have MORE of that pretty color.
