Well there's been drama for Lacey and Daffy past couple of days. Yesterday, Lacey ended up with a limp, I think she has hurt her foot from landing from flight because she always does a few flips when she lands. And then on the same night she got locked out of the shed. She's lucky I decided to go down and check everyone. I knew she was locked out straight away because I could here her making a racket from the top of the field! And as for Daffy, I was trying to catch him today and he decided to run next to bella when i went for him and bella is really over dramatic and set an alarm off and everyone started doing a runner to the woods. I wanted to avoid this situation but I thought now it's happened I might as well just go after him, so I did. And he stupidly started following the hens flapping his wings, so they must have thought he was a bird of prey or something and some turned around to level up to him but then realised it was him stopped. But top hen PL came into the woods and saw him following the girls flapping so she shot past me and started braying him really hard. And because it was in the woods it just had to be in a bush I couldn't reach into! She was full on flapping at him, pecking him, standing on his back, pecking his head, the lot! I seriously thought she was going to kill him so I had to just dive into the bush to grab him. He is luckily fine!! Even though it was horrible seeing that, I'm happy to see top hen PL will protect the girls because Roger just carried on running!

I wonder if poor Coco Orp is ever going to catch a break! She has such a depressing life! She was hatched last year, and whilst she was still a baby she got herself caught in a rat trap and was crawling with ants nearly dead when I found her as it was around her neck. Then as she got older she escaped a stoat attack and her mother was caught but lived. Coco and Oeflay then came under attack by something and Coco ended up in another field but I luckily found her. She then went on to hatch 3 Pheasent chicks and 3 ducklings with her mother to have them all robbed by rats. She then went broody again and another hen trampled her fertile eggs. Last week I discovered she has an eye injury nd now today, she's been attacked by something! I'm fairly certain its a Stoat as she's has lots of feathers ripped out of her backside. She doesn't appear to be injured, but I'm going to check her over tonight. She's really scared the poor girl. Feel bad as I was in the field next door giving some carrots to this horse and I heard them all letting warning calls off but I just thought it was because they could hear me calling for the horse. After seeing top hen PL in action with Daffy, I think she may have saved her to be honest. Because thinking about it, ever since PL became top hen, no one has died from an attack. Whereas before everyone who was attacked got killed. She was also stood by Coco when I found her too.

Usually the top hens are just bullies.Maybe she is an erudite and enlightened hen who reads Voltaire. It is good she understands this concept.

Poor Coco Orp. I hope she will be ok. Head hen, PL is a fine and formidable guard hen.
PL has never been a bully, she usually takes the bottom hens under her wing. I was so sad when Dolly dethroned her because Dolly was a big bully. But now PL is back at the top, she just proves why she was the rightful top hen.
