Hi everyone!
I am in the market for a new camera and have seen some BEAUTIFUL pictures on this site! I am buying this camera soley for my pets(1 dog and 5 chickens) and thought you guys were the best to talk to about pictures of animals! Does anyone recommend a certain type or specific camera for my use? I'm pretty good on price just not toooo expensive and Id like it to take good action shots because my birds don't ever seem to sit still!!

I have a Canon Rebel, it's my first DSLR and I LOVE it. Almost all of the pictures I take are of my animals (dogs, horses, chickens) and It gets great action shots.
Here are some of the pictures I've taken with it over the last three years . . .

NikonD5100 with 55-200 lens. This camera/kit lens allows me to get in close without invading the subject's privacy

Don't discount the microsize point and shoot cameras. You can take these things just about anywhere. While the quality is nowhere near a DSLR, these little guys will allow you to develop your photographer's eye. However, if you do chose a DSLR find one suitable for your skill level, and buy the best quality lens you can afford. And in my opinion the Canon camera always shoots warmer colors so skin tone is more natural looking.

I shot this with the Canon Power Shot Elph. The camera was only inches from the subject.

Kodak Easy Share

Nikon Cool Pix 5700. I had trouble with flash washout with this camera, and since I found it in a closet a work, I had no manual to work from. I printed the manual from Nikon's website, and eventually learned how to use the camera.

So get out there and start shooting!
