<3 N.C Chicken Chick <3 :
He is awsome! Such a great picture subject
Big spurs!
If you guys don't mind I have some questions...
If peas are hand raised will they be nice. Do they like people in general(how timid) ? Do peas lay eggs every day? Are they the size of ostrich eggs?
I am still trying to find out if hand raised ones will be nice when they are adults. This year I hatched out my first peachick and he was all alone so I hand raised him and he is really imprinted to me. His name is Peep. He likes it when I pet him near his beak like under his chin and scratch around his crest. I hope he won't turn aggressive as an adult. I don't pick him up a lot and if he has a day were he doesn't want to be petted then I don't pet him but normally he likes it.
New peafowl can be kind of flighty and skittish around people but once they get used to you they are fine. They will eat out of your hand but won't let you touch them unless they are like Peep.
Peahens don't lay like chickens. The breeding season is in the Spring and Summer and peahens lay a clutch of around six eggs. The peahen will lay an egg around every day or every other day until she has around six eggs but if you take her eggs away she will lay more. Their eggs are a little bigger then chicken eggs but not nearly as big as ostrich eggs.
