The only other hawk it could be is Sharp Shinned. They look a lot alike, but a Sharp Shinned won't sit out exposed like that. They hide in trees and brush and are very hard to see. I had one eating wild quail in the yard last month. I knew something was there, could hear it thrashing in a big oak. Before I even saw it, it took off, flapping like crazy, and a poor dead quail plopped down behind me. The hawk came back and finished eating it later. Waste not want not!
