OK, so I candled some hatching eggs the day before yesterday. about half of them had a nicely formed embryo and lots of blood vessels surrounding them.
I checked them again this morning because i noticed my incubator was a few degrees cool, around 96.5-97 degrees F. they were set last wednesday at 7 pm, it is now monday morning.
now, pretty much all my eggs look the same:
there is a bunch of blood vessels / spidery veins, but now they all have a faint red line (looks the same as the veins in terms of color and thickness) that goes around the circumference of the eggs, and the embryos are no longer visible like they were on the previous day. it doesn't really look like they are blood rings: they are irregular shaped, squiggly, not uniformly round, and they are faint (about the same size and color as the other veins). in my, limited experience, the blood ring is usually fairly uniformly round, or more of a straight line, and is usually darker / thicker than the other small veins. I just had another hatch with this same incubator (brinsea octagon 20) with AMAZING results, 93% hatch rate. so I am a bit confused. See the diagramsbelow that I made.
the most troubling part was the apparent "disappearance" of the little embryos I could clearly see on the previous day...what do you think? are my eggs dead? or could the embryos have just moved or something? has anyone experienced this or had eggs that looked like this? I really appreciate any input, these are fairly expensive hatching eggs that i went to a lot of trouble to get WITHOUT having them sent through the mail!!!
