My RIR rooster's breathing was a little different and I see a tiny piece of grass in one of his nostrils sticking out. Will he get this out on his own?

We've only had him a week and I haven't much experience with roosters yet. I'm not sure if I can catch him (nervous until I get more comfortable)...I'd have to get hubby to do it.

They are not so bad to pick up. Just teach him who's boss. You'll have to do it some day anyway if you want him to be nice.

LOL

Any suggestions for a newbie that hasn't had much experience around roosters on the best way to do this (for someone nervous..lol).? If he pecks me or trys to flog me...I'll jump out of my skin....lol

You have to take some deep breaths and blow out all the nervous. Then just reach down with both hands over his wings and quickly then tuck him under your arm with his feet held up against his body. Pet and calm him. If you have somebody to help, hold his neck and head gently and then pluck that offending sliver of grass from his nostril. It might be a long one so be sure that you go very slow.

ETA: Usually the pecking doesn't hurt. A bite will scare you more than it will hurt. If you get a bite, just thump his head or tap his beak and he'll let go.

I am sorry, but that is the funniest thing I have heard today. I am at work, and can hardly contain myself.....
