Pied gene in chickens?

I am trying to get a pied d'uccle project going. After a bunch of research with out finding ver much at all,I came upon an article where they produced pied sumatras using black sumatras and barred rocks.The rooster was carrying the pied gene (P gene) so they came to the conclusion that the hen did not after not producing any pied chicks. Though they did nreed the male nack to the offspring.This created sumatras with a lot of white as chicks but once fully feathered they had normal black plumage,with them showing some white feathers.
I understand the pied condition gene whatever you feel like calling it, just not how to get this color,the article left out a lot of ingo on the creation possibly to keep others from creating it,who knows.If anyone knows anything more about this please let me know.I'm fascinated with this color after seeing button quails and guineas and ducks in this color.Also are there any bantam breeds or standard that are available in this color? Thanks for any imformation.

They seem to have Pied Suffolk hybrids in the UK but not here in the US. I'm interested in pied chickens as well.

those are called pie but are hybrids and not true pied birds.thank for mentioning them though
pied is being black with white on belly head and sometimes tips of wings.it is expressed on almost all breeds of domestic poultry but I have yet to discover a chicken with it.

First thing first, the “P” Gene is for Pea Comb and the “Pi” Gene is for Pied.
Here is what I found on the Pied Gene,
Pied/Mottle (Pi/Mo)
“”The pied pattern is recessive black and white as in Exchequer Leghorn. Research has shown that the pied and mottle patterns are due to the mottle gene. It is no longer accepted that 'pied' is a distinct gene from mottle, however it is not known why the mottle gene causes the pied pattern in some birds and the typical mottle pattern in others. Mottle causes a white tip at the distal end (end farthest from the skin) of the feather. Chicks with extended black and mottle (E/E mo/mo) as in the Exchequer Leghorn will often have black restricted from the belly and sometimes the head.””

Edited: Oops! Got it not that Chris posted about the Exchequer Leghorn. Very interested, I didn't realized that pied and mottled were so similar (yet so different?)

I have found however that a coulpe of my self blue/mille fleur d'uccles chicks may possess the potential to express this color. Some traits that chickens that possess the gene express these traits a pure black chicken bred from chickens with no white in their backgrounds may express randomly placed white feathers here and there. chickens with colored feet may have one or two yellow or white toenails and part way up the toe.

opps i said p gene.exactly what you posted is what it said in the article.I was looking to create a pied like the buttons and guineas not a speckled looking bird. thanks.

What generation cross are the Self Blue/ Mille Fleur, are the F1’s?
I ask this because F1 crosses should be solid Black.
