LOL! I think you might need some breakfast with that coffee!! Mamabear, how do you teach a pig to sit? I have been trying to teach him like the dogs and its not working. Is there a trick to it?
It is easy. With snack in hand, touch them on the nose so they smell it, then slowly lift up while saying "sit". A pig can't just look up, but when they sit they can see higher. They will catch on very fast to what "sit" means. They will also learn very quickly that "if you don't sit-you don't get". It takes about 5 minutes.
Ok, He WILL NOT SIT! He just wont. He'll back up and back up, but never sit. If i dont give the treat he just walks away, sometimes runs away squealing like I'm teasing him. If I rub his belly he will lay down though...Any more tips?
Love the pig talk. Great pics. Pig scramble up here in NH is what got some people I know into piggin'. As for the growing attatched to your food thoughts we have our own concerns. The Chef from 'Hells Kitchen' has another show in Europe called F is for Food. Watch the clip I linked here to see how he raised 2 hogs with his kids and they approach that topic.
I would rather my children cry a bit as they loose their pigs than grow up like I did in a city where I thought pigs came from the meat aisle
