what bedding is the best option for pigeons? Something that isn't to dusty? Have used hay and straw but that just brings in the mites. What does everybody else use?

I use a deep layer of sand. So long as it stays dry its great... so make sure no rain or damp can get into your pigeon coop.

When the birds poop on the sand floor the dry sand dries up the poop really quickly. I just rake over the floor about once a week. No need to even clean it out. There is never any bad smell.

All the feathers will gather up in the corners.. because when the birds fly about the wind from their wingbeats blows the feathers into the corners... where they are easy to just brush up.

With the sand it all stays looking really neat and tidy... and the birds feathers stay clean (I have mostly white birds).

For the nest boxes I don't use any bedding (only the sticks they collect themselves to make the actual nest). The poop dries out quickly on the bare wood and its easy to scrap off when it builds up too much.

The sand is not dusty so long as you don't stir it up. Wear a face mask when you rake it over.

The pigeons also like the sand a lot to peck about in to eat the natural grit I use a course grade river sand or builders sand.
