Pigeon hen not sharing nest.

Fantastic birds. The male is called a blue bar. The few white flights would earn him the title "mismark blue bar". The hen is called a recessive red mottle or splash. Crossing them together would give you a wide variety of mottling (white feathers). But you can expect most to have white feathers on their heads and wings. You will probably get 50% red mottles and 50% blue bar mottles if the blue bar carries red. If he doesnt it will be 100% bluebar mottles. I think they look nice. yes they are rare but I have ssen them on eggbid from time to time so they are out there. Hungarian Giant House pigeon is the full name.
They would be shown in the A.O.C. class

here is the show standard

The cockbird is a Blue bar white flight. Hen is a recessive red mottle. Recessive red covers up whatever color the bird is genetically. So under the red, should could be any color or pattern. If the male carries RR, half the babies will be RR like her, and half will be blue or any other color. The half that are not RR will carry RR.

If the male does not carry RR, then the babies will all be blue or any other color, depending on what the hen is genetically.

Mottles in recessive red are thought to be caused by the tiger grizzle gene. So you could end up with a variety of grizzles, pieds, and splashes, especially since the male is pied as well.

Thanks thief pouter and mary. I think the male is handsome. I got them from an auction barn last fall for about $5 each. So I guess that was a good find.

I found the arizona club website the other day. And already have the other saved too. mine kind of loo a little different body type wise then the some of the pictures I saw of the show birds do. I think its because the guy that was selling them didn't show, but knew quite a bit about showing. He did say that these could be shown. but then again they could look different once they are allowed to stand in a show coop.

Thanks about the classes. I don't think the pigeon show I am going to will be dividing them into classes. Its more of a open class poultry type show put on by one of the local county fairs every fall. Still, there is over 200 birds shown at it each year. I know they didn't break down the archangels when I took them last year.

Blue bar motles sound like they would be pretty!

I wish they would provide color references over the net, instead of just the standard. It would be a lot easier to help identify the colors, if they did.

Very pretty birds.
I like those even better than my Russian Tumblers. I do love my Tumblers but wouldnt mind having a pair of the house pigeons too.
ETA: I have had hens do hte I am not moving syndrom also, and then I have hens who dont lay who go over and steal eggs and hatch them out.
crazy birds.

Well now my angels are sitting and the male is being a nasty, bitey, wing slapping, nest hog. Go firgure.

I didn't know you had pigeons gypsy. I had tumblers at one time as a pet. The neighbor cat killed them. it was a long time ago. i'd like to have them, but can't where I am at. There is cats and dogs galore. Being my luck my neighbors stupid cockapoos would kill them.

If you ever find house pigeons where you are at, go for it. They are worth it!

Well, if you were to want to show these guys (which I think you should go for it), the babies may turn out to be closer to other color classes than AOC. Hopefully the babies will turn out with solid white flights. And if those are blue, then there's one class. You also run the chance of getting solid reds (recessive red). Which would fall under the 'self red' class

Oh I will show them. Just not at one of the bigger pigeon shows. It will be an open class fair one that has about 200 birds. And I think all the color classes will be combined together at this one for the breed. The other shows are too far away for me.

I was more worried about their type then thier color. But then again its nice to know about the color too!
