Pigeon question - male/female ratio?

How many males and females can you keep together? Is this pretty much like ducks, chickens, turkeys? 1 male per several females?

As long as there is plenty of room for them, having more of one than the other is okay. If you have a bunch of cockbirds and one hen, they may all fight for her attention at first, but once she picks a mate, they will bond and the others will just be single. In a loft, as long as everyone has a perch, all is good. If in a small cage, like about the size of a rabbit hutch for example, if you have a pair and one extra bird, the pair may not like the loner being around their perch/nest space. Just depends on how dominant the individual birds are.

But yes, more hens is always better. Keeps the stress from being quite as high. However, the single hens may mate up with each other, and you'll have eggs out of your ears LOL. But of course only the male/female pair will have fertile eggs. The rest will just take turns sitting on 4 eggs that will not hatch. Sometimes males will pair up with each other if no hens are available. I usually see that more in doves than pigeons though. Either way, obviously there will be no eggs. But they'll build a nest and sit in it as if there were eggs
