Pigeon vent looks strange

Oh dear. No this is not normal and they bird has some sort of illness.

Hope you find out what is going on. Never seen anything like that in 20 years keeping pigeons.

The bird is otherwise acting completely normal, energetic and looks healthy. Its poops look mostly normal. I am treating my loft with a broad spectrum medication starting today. If that doesn't improve the condition by the end of the week I am taking it to an avian vet. I will take it to a vet earlier if anything worsens.

UPDATE: Her vent looked completely back to normal last night. Apparently cleaning it out a few days ago worked, or it just healed itself.

That is great news! I am happy for you and the pigeon. It did not look like a prolapsed vent and I never seen anything like it in my years of raising birds. The fact that it was still acting healthy made me think it was nothing too serious.

Thank you for the update.

My mom and sister-in-law were pretty sure it was not a prolapsed vent, and both suspected it was a vent/cloacal infection, which I was reading could get very serious very fast. I ordered anti-biotics for her and they arrived yesterday, but I am not going to administer them, I am just going to keep an eye on her. Now I have some meds on hand, some 4-in-1 powder that is a broad spectrum med treating e-coli, salmonella/paratyphoid, coccidiosis, canker and a few other common problems. I also bought a powder wormer, which de-worms all but tapeworm. I'm glad I have these meds on hand now.

Here is a picture of her (pretty sure she's a hen) right after I gave her the butt bath lol. She wasn't too happy about it, but not unhappy enough to refuse peanuts. She's a pretty one. Her name is Growly, because literally all she does is growl lol.
