Hello-

There are lots and lots of pigeons and doves in shelters all around Northern California and MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue is so full that we're turning birds away.

Please- if you've got room for a pair of rescued pigeons (mostly kings) or doves, contact Elizabeth at: [email protected]

Or if you're going to be breeding pet pigeons and doves, think about saving a life (or two or six) that are already here and replace the real eggs with fake and adopt a homeless bird.

MickaCoo has more than 20 doves available for adoption and almost 30 pigeons. Plus there are all the birds at the shelters... HELP!

Shipping IS available for a lot of these birds. So even if you're not in California, adopting these little guys is still possible!

link failed for me- I am interested in a female as close as possible to a Russian Tumbler- these are pets not sport birds- I have a lone male that keeps tring to impress the blond Eurasian ringnecks... *sigh* they just don't understand him.

Do they 'sell' fake eggs? I'm about to be up to the eyeballs in blond Eurasian ringnecks unless they do

I need some (doves) bred for the magic shows (hubby is a magician) they have to be hand reared so adopting those won't work (to my knowledge- hubbie is expert).

Link did not work for me either

Their website must be temporarily down, cause it won't work for me either. That is the correct address.

For now you can go here: http://www.rescuereport.org/
It's
Elizabeth's website. If you notice the names of birds on the left sidebar, a lot of them say 'available'. Click on their names and you'll get a little info on the bird and pictures. The majority of the birds you'd be able to have shipped are on that website anyway. If you contact Elizabeth, she can send you a form to fill out while the MickaCoo site is down.

I'm not really sure where you'd get fake eggs small enough for doves. I suppose there's always the option of hardboiling the eggs once laid, and let them sit on those for a while (of course you'd have to be careful of how you get rid of the eggs later

). I'll look to see if I can find some.

ETA: Also, I love the Borg chicken avatar!

Thanks for that other link for in the meantime

What sweet birds and what a great thing they are doing. If nothing else, I am at least a little better educated on them. I hadn't heard of the problem with people being 'helpful' and releasing King pigeons into the wild after having purchased them in the market. Poor things... it would be like dropping a bunch of meatie chicks off in the middle of nowhere

And the 'birth control' little toasty warm fake eggs in replacement of the real deal. Makes sense.

Thanks for the link......now if I can get that aviary built this summer.......

(LOL Thanks
