Pilgrim Geese thread

I am definitely leaning toward male, but what is confusing is the smaller size & dark eyes. I may have to find a vet that can sex it for me before spring. I guess instead of one pair, we will have two. Now if we could just get them to get along with all of the ducks!

Haha! I wish you lots of luck with that! I seperate mine. They do alright for short periods of supervised time together and that's about it. My ducks are penned in the back yard and my ganders roam the backyard that is fenced. My ganders and pekin drake fight through their pen. Stinkers. When I let them out for their walk around our property everyone happily follows me as long as we keep moving. The second we stop the pekins chase my poor boys.

Are they settling in pretty good? how old are they? Will they be out with your Pekins and Pilgrims?
They seem to be adjusting well. Eating, drinking, and swimming. You can tell they've been handled as they aren't terrified of us but they will flee with any sudden movement. The little drake danced and side stepped around my hand today while trying to hand feed him lettuce. He really wanted it but just wasn't sure. The hen is pretty shy still. They won't be joining the pekins. Henry would definately hurt that little hen trying to mate her. He got me good this morning for the first time. It didn't really hurt but he left a nice red mark. So I held him down for a few minutes. It used to work. Not any more. It's okay though. I still love his naughty hormonal butt. :)

The hen is 3 years and the drake is this year's hatch.

That's good to hear.. Mine are too actually. :)
They sound like it! I spoke too soon... Ollie charged someone today. Funny thing is I was telling him what nice boys they were. Next thing you know Ollie ran up when he had his back turned. He stopped about a foot from him and thought better of it. I'm glad he didn't actually go through with it. Big booger!

Never turn your back to a gander.. My DS did that a couple years ago and Sam got him right on the behind. He had thick blue jeans on so it didn't hurt but did surprise him. I had to laugh it was funny and the look on my sons face [he is an adult] I'd never let Sam go after a child. Make a sign and place it where visitors come up to your house. Never Turn Your Back On a Gander. LOL

Quite the surprise to have a gander bit your tush!!! I'm glad it didn't hurt though... LOL! The sign is a really good idea. I asked the hubby to make one to hang on the gate. :)
