Pilgrim Geese thread

Hopefully you got all those turtles now... I didn't realize turtles were even a threat. Pretty neat both girls took on nest duty. I love how family oriented geese are. I'm new to owning both ducks and geese so I have a lot to learn!
Snapping turtles are the worst of preds in water. other than may an alligator. Even large mouth bass are said to eat ducklings and gosling when tiny.
I looked up pictures of Male and female Pilgrim Goslings on line I see the difference now.

Geese are such a delight to own I think your boys will be happy with you and I hope you enjoy many years with them. To me learning is experience so we learn along the way as we read on here and live with these birds.

I couldn't agree more, Miss Lydia. They really are a joy to have. Many people don't understand it but once you have them I wouldn't have it any other way!

It's good to know about the turtles and bass! Mine will be sticking to their kiddie pool for the time being. We are right off the river though. I'm hoping they stay close to the house when they are grown. The river seems to attract so many preds. Hopefully I will have some smart tame boys that will stick around close to home. :)

We have a mountain river about 75 yrd from our home and none of my water fowl are allowed to go down to it. Lots of preds here too. Thankfully there are trees and shrubs between our home and the river so it's not like they can look across the dirt road and see it that well, mine enjoy their kiddy pools.

They are so adorable. :love
Thank you! They can't see the river here either. We live on about 5 acres. Most of that is an empty pasture. We live on the front half and my mother-in-law lives behind us, and the river runs behind her. There is a very steep ditch to get down to it also which is nice...

A mountain river? That sounds so beautiful! :)
