Pilgrim Geese thread

Thank you! They grew unbelievably fast. You can kind of see Ollie's (the one in back) little patch of black feathers. I don't know where they came from!
Sometimes they just show up and he may molt them out in his first molt, I remember a member who had Embden's [solid white] and hers had some grey feathers in their wings. No matter they are beautiful

I don't mind his black feathers they make him unique. That's funny about the embden. Sounds more like a male pilgrim. How is the mafia doing today? (Love that!) :)

mafia is not happy, my Muscovy drake has become head of mafia and is now running the flock yard. He herds them up the hill to make them leave. This would never have happened 3 weeks ago. Always something to keep things lively.

I am looking to maybe add to the chickens next year, I would like to add some geese and love the sound of the pilgrims. Where should I be looking to order some. I ordered my chickens from Cackle but they don't have them, Holderead no longer breed and I am shy about Metzer as they are in California and we are in Indiana. thank you for any suggestions you may have.

I seriously can't believe they let the Muscovy drake bully and herd them away. Birds are funny creatures. We let the ducks out of their pen today to forage in the backyard with the geese. I figured maybe they would act differently if given more space. They actually did okay to my surprise. They basically stayed in their own separate groups for the most part. When they did cross paths Hazel would hunch down and open her mouth and chase them for about a second. The boys are much faster than the ducks so they would just run away or hide by me. I was pretty happy with today's outcome. :)

I would love to give you some advice but I've never ordered geese from a hatchery. We found our pilgrims locally through craigslist. Maybe you could try that as well. As far as I know and I could be wrong but I think most hatcheries are done selling goslings by now. At least Metzer was last time I checked. I hope your able to find some they really are a great breed to have!

Hello, my husband and I have purchased a breeding pair of Pilgrim Geese today. We are wondering how much water to leave in their house at night? We have no idea how much water they drink.

Happy to hear things went well. It would be so nice if everyone could live in harmony[I believe that was a song at one time] lol to the tune of "All we need is love." right? anyway I noticed my drake yesterday he will let them eat and drink thankfully I put out an extra feeder just in case he was being really mean. But he likes to herd them, maybe in his dreams he always wanted to be a Boarder Collie.

Hopefully your 2 groups will co mingle better now.

I looked everywhere since October, and the only option was metzer. And like one or two other hatcheries in the whole season but they don't have pics or anything and they had same days availability as metzer, so maybe where the same from metzer. But I had seen better quality of pilgrims in this thread. So I ask for hatching eggs and lucky me they did sold me some eggs. 4 eggs from Texas( like 7 hours away from me) and 1 female hatch then I got 5 from Iowa or Ohio (

sorry I'm not sure) and two males hatch. So I have 1 female two males I love them, the are quite, and not aggressive.! The best of the story is that i don't have incubator so i used hens to hatch them.
