How do you "train" chicks to separate? Most of mine pile up on the floor in the corner of the coop. A few of them use the roost.

How old are your chicks? If they are feathered out and no longer using a heat source, they'll sometimes pile up together at night when they're young for the warmth and companionship. My 4 BAs still do it now and then and they're 11 weeks old now...yikes!

My 6 week old group lay next to each other in a line but not on top of each other. They are still feathering out, but pretty covered.
My 2 week old group pile on each other, but there still pretty young and I use a heat lamp on really cold nights, like tonight. Its already below 50 degrees here.

I searched for this. I have 14 chicks (total) all between 6-9 weeks and I got a few more today in the same age range. I put them in tonight and sat in there to make sure nothing crazy happened and they were like dog piling in the corner with my 5 bantams being completely covered lol.
