Pin feathers won’t go away

So we have a special chicken who 1.5 years ago survived a fox attack. She’s a darling and we got her fixed up but she’s had neurological issues since the attack, mostly not being able to preen herself on one side.

She recently went through a hard molt and was able to preen half of her new feathers but the rest are three inch long pin feathers and still in their sheaths. Does anyone know an easy way to help her release these feathers from the sheaths?

If she accepts handling you can gently roll the feather sheathes between your fingers to loosen them.

I used to do this for my birds when I had cockatiels because they couldn't reach the backs of their necks.

If you can get a hold of her, you could gently pull the sheathes loose.
