Do the pins feathers in female chicks appear earlier than in male chicks? We suspected that our frizzle chick was a boy because his pin feathers appeared after the two other chicks pin feathers did, and so far, everyone on BYC says that we were right. Two girls, one boy. And does anyone have any other early chick sexing advice? I have been chickening for a year but it’s hard to sex chicks!!

In some breeds, early feathering indicates cockerels. But in non-early feathering breeds, this method of sexing isn't useful.

I meant to say early feathering indicates pullets. Late to feather indicates cockerels. But this doesn't work with all breeds. But it beats some "old farmer" methods.
