Pine chips or straw

I would like to know which is better for in the chicken coop, straw or Pine chips. Our chicken yard/run is all sand ( we live in the desert ) should we put straw or pine chips there as well?

Straw gets moldy when it gets wet. Pine shaving do not.

Because of the curing process, straw is filled with mildew spores that only need a little moisture to activate. Pine is great.

Definetly go with pine. Best choice for clean chcikens and makes them smell better

I use pine chips 4"deep in my coop.

I rake them every couple of days and i find they last longer this way and the chickens are always scratching them too!

I use pine shavings. Normally the coops get cleaned out once a month.
