Just wanted to pass along, we have been battling bumblefoot in one hen it seems like forever...we did the surgery, we tried soaking, antibiotic ointment, oral antibiotics meant for staph, red wonder oil, betadine/iodine stuff we had from our horses, and no matter what we did it just didn't go away. She stayed swollen and lame. Finally I ran across an old jar of pine gum tar my grandma had made me. We pulled the scabs off, packed it in, put the bandages on, left it for a couple of days, repeated three times and voila, she is now going without bandages, the swelling is down and she looks to be on the mend. Also we had apparently missed a bumble because it was right at the surface after the second application. Just fyi for what it's worth.

Interesting.

I have been considering using Ichthamol on bumble foot, and think I may try it. (total fail at surgery)
Ichthamol is good at drawing out infections/abscess (stinks tho!), and is supposed to be effective against gram-positive bacteria...which staph is one of those, I believe...and if bumblefoot is a staph infection as I've read-- it might work!

I think I'll use some on a wrap for a few days and see what happens.
