Pine Shavings and a Garden Question

Why not start composting for next season and let the chickens scratch in it, eat the bugs, and mix it for you (just put some sides on the bin or they will spread to everywhere)

I have raised beds and used pine shavings over black plastic the first year. Now I use card board which of course make it ok to let the chickens in in the fall to work things up. I also use it around trees and shrubs. There isn't that much poop in there to hurt anything IMO. You can always cover it over with darker mulch and just lay a thinner layer.

the plastic has pretty much been pulled up and I just use the cordless weed whacker to take care of the weeds. It all breaks down eventually. Just get the cardboard where every you can and spread it out.
