There is this great book you can buy called Storeys guide to raising chickens..you can find it online at amazon.com. NOT expensive at all. it has EVERYTHING you could ever want to know about chickens and raising them.
Pine shavings are good. dont even mess with cedar. i wouldnt risk it.
