pine shavings and compost

If I use pine shavings under my coop can it still be used as fertilizer??

Yep. The pine shavings will act as mulch if you use it right away. It will rot just like everything else if composted.

One of the reasons I got chickens was for the fabulous compost. My question is should I wait until they are off the medicated feed before I throw the shavings into the compost pile? I'm an organic gardener.

I dont think what little medication that is in feed would affect your mulch any. Thats exactly what Im doing, putting shavings in the chicken coop, then cleaning the coop and applying directly on my flower beds as mulch. The results have been absolutely wonderful.

I thought it had to sit about a year before you could put it on your garden?
