help! i'm under baby chick attack they are all over me while i'm trying to type. mom hen is just sitting there, and if she had lips i bet she's smiling if not laughing at me right now

I taught my chicks to use a chicken nipple while they were still in the brooder. I drilled a hole in the cap of small soda bottle and screwed in the nipple. I wrapped wire around the bottle and hung it from the side of the brooder. They learned in a day and had clean water from there on. As adults, they get a bucket with 3 nipples in the bottom. Easy to fill, water stays clean all the time. I hang it from the fence at a height that makes them stretch their necks just a little.

Our first chicks are 4 weeks old and out in coop with heat lamps. It is a constant battle to keep water clean of pine shavings. I just bought a 5 gallon waterer and stopped using the chick waterers in hopes it would help reduce changing water/cleaning pine shavings out. It was littered with shavings in the water this morning. Is there anything bad that will happen if they drink water regularly that has had shavings sitting in it? I guess hanging the waterer is an option..though they r still lil yet. Messy lil buggers.
