pine shavings

I hope it is ok to use pine shavings, I just picked mine up and that is what they are on I am wondering if I should switch to paper? Do u use shredded paper or lay it flat?

No issue in using pine shavings, they will be fine

I used plain paper towel for the first week, than went to pine because I was cleaning their brooder 3x a day! They picked at the pine for the first day or so but they also ate their food. Now a week after switching they only seldomly pick the bedding and everyone is fine. My next batch coming in 2 weeks will be started on pine.

I started mine on shavings from day one. Not a problem....i dont see any need for anything else. I cant see why they would eat the shavings instead of the food.

Thank you for the info. I have one chick that is drinking but does not seem to be eating. Any suggestions? This is there 1st day.

I had mine on paper towels for the first week then switched. I've seen my EE eat the shavings they kick into the water...they do have free access to plenty of grit so I'm hoping she will be ok. They are 2.5 weeks now.

Thanks so much for all of this advice! I was really worried about switching from paper towels to pine shavings- was afraid they'd get sick from eating them.
