Pink Eggs?

I keep seeing pictures of these gorgeous pink eggs. Does anyone know what breeds will lay them dependably? Or even often?

Usually those pretty pink eggs are really a brown shade and the screen makes them look pink. Also if you hold the pink egg to a brown egg it looks pink, if you hold the pink egg to a white one it looks brown/pinkish. Cream color eggs can also look light pink. Those options aside some of the following breeds will lay pink eggs:

Australorp (only some)
Easter Egger (only some)
Langshan
Plymouth Rock
Asil
Barred Rock
Light Sussex

Cream Layers: (might look pink)

Faverolle
Dorking
Easter Egger (only some)

i should also add that once you get a chicken that lays a egg a certain color, you like she will always lay that color(color may lighten as the laying cycle progresses but the color wont go from pink to blue)

Also if you have purebreed chickens, say your hen lays a beautiful pink egg and you want more of that shade of egg, you can hatch her eggs and her pullet chicks will lay the same color. A non-cross bred pullet chick will lay the same color egg as the one they hatch out of.

Well, that was useful! Thank you. I have a Favorelle that lays a pinky beige egg. Now I will have to figure out which one. ) So what you are telling me is that not all hens in these breeds lay this tint, but it can be developed. Do you know if some breeds are more prone to it than others? I have read light Sussex, but of course don't know personally.

Correct not all hens in all the breeds lay pinkish eggs. The ones that have the (only some) note , only some hens from those breeds will lay pinkish eggs...like with EEs they more often lay blue or green then pink. The other breeds without the (only some) note SHOULD all lay pinkish eggs but you know how chickens can be stubborn and all lol. The breeds will lay different tones/hues/tints etc of the "pink" color eggs too. Some may look more brown then pink to you, you may want a darker pink or a lighter pink. If you hatch your own eggs it makes it much easier to pick what color eggs you want your flock to lay....only hatch egg colors you like. Don't hatch extra small or extra large eggs for the chickens size because you will actually make bigger or smaller chicks. Also dont do odd shapes, porous eggs...etc. Basically if your breeding the same breed to itself what they egg looks like is what the pullet chick that hatches from it will make...all defects included. The only ones not included are egg defects due to diet or age.

I didn't know about the "what you breed is what you get" eggwise, either. I will definitely keep that in mind. Wish it worked that well for puppies! BTW, has anyone ever asked you if you like animals? )
