Pinkish/reddish feet?

I noticed this morning that one of my RIR hen's feet were a little reddish, down the outside legs and inbetween the "toes" on both feet. She is about 18 months old and appears healthy, not in any discomfort. She is, however, the one I posted a few weeks back about who has been pecking out her own breast feathers, to the point where she had a scab. (She's duct-taped for the time being!) I have inspected very closely for mites and found nothing. None of the other hens in my flock are exhibiting symptoms.

I did notice this once before with the same hen but before I could post about it went away. The last time it happened it was just the outside legs (not the toes) and I thought maybe she'd scraped herself somehow, but now that it's happened again I'm curious. Anybody else see something like this before?

I haven't noticed this with any of my hens, but my roosters get pink/reddish feet and legs. When they get upset/angry/etc they get the red streaks down the sides of their legs and between the toes.

I would still treat her (and your others) with permethrin for mites just to be on the safe side if you havnt already. You cannot always find the mites, even when you have thoroughly inspected as it depends what type of mite it is, some come out at night to feed and leave the bird and hide during the day. Other types of mite will burrow under the skin and others are so tiny you would need a skin scraping done for the vet to check under the microscope. I think there are about seven types of lice and mite and it is not unusual for there to be a few different ones on the birds at the same time.

Sometimes Scaly leg mite can cause the legs/feet to look a bit red at the start from irritation. Coat the legs and feet in vaseline and this should kill them off quick if it is the culprit. It certainly wont do any harm to try

Give her a bath! She might have gotten into something. I had a rooster once with red streaked legs, his but was naturally flaming red too~as red as his comb. Pretty weird.
