Pinless Peepers caused Chicken to get swarmed by the rest of the flock!!

Are people so hesitant to use peepers cause it blocks forward sight or is it cause they go through the nose? I feel those are both excusable when the alternative is to let them pick their flockmates bloody... Sometimes chickens get cooped up because of snow... Or they are just rude. Peepers just seem not a big deal to me.

Good feed and space is a better solution. ;)
Would slaughter a 'bad' bird to eat before resorting to such a device.

Yeah but thats the thing Im confused on??? What is so bad about the little clip on thats you can take right back off with no pain that people would rather kill their chickens???

What ever else is going on with your hens, be advised (and I realize this post is an old one) aggression combined with feather eating is a sure sign of protein deficiency. Also chickens are not smart enough in the abstract to realize that that red thing hanging from a flock mates' nose is not a piece of plastic jewelry, they recognise it as being part of a entirely new or different hen. Let's just say that hens don't handle differences between each other well. This is the reason that so many Polish and other weird looking chickens spend their short lives as a target for your flock to take their aggression out on.

Yeah but they do that with leg bands, wing bands, or anything else that makes them stand out. Not sure what makes this so different. Also its not plastic jewelry its a tool to avoid having to take more drastic measures like beak cutting or culling their favourite bird. Most people I have seen talk of trying everything in the book first. And yeah it's important to make sure your birds have good balenced food and some sort of entertainment, but I don't see what is wrong with using these in tandem when things are going south. Chickens don't know they are supposed to quit their bad habits just cause you've put more effort into them. And I'd kick myself for not doing everything to keep a chook from pecking the skin off the other birds just cause I was waiting to make sure it wasn't a protein problem first.
So what's the REAL hang up here? Is it just that people don't like how it sounds? Or how it looks? Maybe it seems a waste of time to those less attached to their individual birds? Like I could see an argument based on that they can't free range with these things on and so long term are less profitable. But if your birds aren't ranging i don't see a reason not to
