Should I cut back on the hens per pen? Or seperate the younger ones till breeding starts in February?
So far just younger drakes have prolapsed. But it scared me to see that

6 hens per drake shouldn’t be a problem. I don’t think I’d go any higher on the ratio though. Are they breeding now? Just wondering since breeding season is over for the year since mid November when my Muscovy molted.

Drakes can always be an issue. Mating ratios you’re referencing are mostly for fertility purposes. Drakes are usually always unpredictable.

I believe OP is talking about breeding pens. 1 drake to 6 females.

I know @casportpony has quite a bit of info on penis prolapse and also @Pyxis is a vet tech and can probably offer some info.

@splash of color, have you had any other types of illness or unexplained deaths in your flock? I ask because having 4 with a prolapse is very unusual and it would suggest that there might be a medical reason that's causing it.

Our season is January- may . My birds moult in sep and August
