pip and die

I am trying to raise it but since the other pips membranes aren t turning white I thought it was ok. Even the ones that pipped and died had moist membranes.

Hope this helps some.......

Pipped eggs, but
died without
hatching

Insufficient moisture Increase humidity (wet-bulb
temperature) during the hatching period.

Improper ventilation Increase ventilation rate in incubator
and/or room, but avoid drafts.

Improper setting of eggs
causing malpositioned
embryos

Set eggs with small end down. Turn
eggs properly but avoid turning within 3
days of hatching.

Were you doing a dry hatch? Even with a dry hatch, humidity should be 65% during lockdown. And I have killed more chicks trying to figure this all out!!!!! You are certainly not alone.

How does one increase the ventilation? I have a styrofoam incubator which has two holes in it that have plugs. My instructions read to open one plug for most of the incubation but open both during lockdown. How would I know if they weren't getting enough air??? Every time I read these posts I realize that I may have gotten in over my head with trying to hatch chicks.

See these kinds of posts is what lead me to buy the Brinsea Octo 20. That thing is completely stupid proof. I have wandered off for DAYS and not looked at it and had a great hatch.

Sorry I cant answer you....
