Help! Is this normal?? I am a teacher hatching eggs in the classroom. Today is day 20 for us and this egg pipped this morning and still has not zipped tonight. I saw it at 8 am when I came in and now 9 pm has only made a little progress.

Thanks for any input!

It can be completely normal for a chick to take its time. If you like, you can remove it from the bator and look at the pip. Can you see the chick moving? If you tap the shell or peep at it, does it respond or tap back? Sometimes they just take their time. :)
What is the humidity in your bator? Did you use a calibrated thermometer to check it before incubating? What brand of bator?

It looks like he has pipped on the wrong side. Luckily, he externally pipped so he can breath, but he could still hit blood vessels. Are you seeing any movement or hearing chirping?
Thanks for pointing this out, I didn't even look close enough to notice. :th

With that in mind, its perfectly normal that he's not making progress. If they pip the wrong end away from the air cell, you have to count that as the internal pip too. He'll likely start to zip tomorrow. Think of this like a visible internal pip. :)

I did see his little beak poking through and heard chirps this afternoon. I have a Kebbonix incubator. Temp is 99.5 humidity was always 45 days 1-18 and now it’s been varying 65 to 75 during the day but drops down to upper 50s overnight until in the morning before I get in.
I did calibrate temp/humidity

I don't think you have anything to worry about then. :) She's still absorbing her yolk sack. She'll hatch right on time tomorrow I'm sure.:)
