I'm new to keeping chickens but absolutely loving it. Hatched out 4 leghorn for the kids but I think I enjoyed it more

. Got a real mixed flock and 5 runner ducks too. All get along just fine. 30 birds in total free range in the back garden. We're very lucky to have such a big space. The odd time the odd cheeky chicken comes in the house and boots the dogs out of their basket... now there's pecking order for you

Sounds like you have a great flock! 30 birds will definitely take up some space so I'm glad you have the room to keep them all! The fresh eggs sure are amazing! I never knew how good they tasted until I kept my own flock. Now I don't think I could ever go back! LOL

Thank you for the warm welcome. Just dashed out to put some chickens to bed. They seem to prefer to stay outside in the pen instead of the coop I built them. Storm in progress, so got them in just before the worst hit. The air feeling a bit fresher now....phew....The lightning is terrific. It's the first time my chickens have experienced a storm. Will it overly stress them.... should I be taking any measures to keep them calm.

Chickens normally do fine in storms. If they seem to be stressing out about it, play some classical music in their coop. Although it may seem silly, this will actually calm them down.

. I have light Sussex, Oxford game, Wheaton maran, aracauna, Vorwerk, bluebell, leghorn , silver Sussex, bantam wyndotte, speckled. Going to thin the flock down to egg color, white , brown, green/blue. Friends & family love the variation. Some chickens were rescued but are coming on great now with a little TLC.
 
Will get some pics up for sure. Was reading a thread earlier about naming a muscovey duck. A friend had one with such a sweet personality, they called him muscovado. ... They had a bit of a sugar theme going because they paired him up with Demerara. ...They ended up with chicks called tate & lyle. ..lol
