It's so hard to tell with silkies if their a boy or girl. Usually the boys have more of upright stance then the girls. The feet might be a good sign of a boy too.

I've heard some bad things about guineas too. I don't know why he bought them. I'll just enjoy them while they are little before they start going threw the terrible teenage years and beyond. Right now they are calmer then a baby chick to hold I know that will change as they age. I just hope they stay in the yard and don't visit the neighbors.

I hope you have a nice Easter. I ate to much and I can't even eat my chocolate rabbit.

Haha, I know! I thought Margaret was a boy for a short time when I first got her, too. Obviously that was wrong! Funny thing is, after she laid her first egg, I posted on the thread I made about her in the breed/gender board in case anyone else found that thread later on and someone, who hadn't read more than the first post with me asking what her sex was, said that she was definitely a rooster. So it wasn't just me at least!

Today, I'm definitely torn. I don't see as big of a difference in foot size between them as I remember from yesterday, but I was only able to get a quick glance in before I had to high-tail it to school for my test. I don't even know. I guess I'll only really know in a few months!


I wouldn't necessarily say bad things about Guineas. They're definitely interesting... Not sure how well they will do with neighbors, as they can be VERY LOUD sometimes! I've found that they won't generally jump over fencing that they can see through unless they can clearly see the top of it (such as there being a bar across the top), but they will take solid fences like nothing. I think it's because they just don't think to look up when they can see through a fence. Then again, I've had one of my Guinea boys pace along in front of the solid wall beneath the coop door because he wouldn't look up to see the doorway there... Sometimes they're just so brainless that I wonder how they could possibly survive this long... Anyway, I'll see if I can find pictures of mine when they were little, I got some cute ones of them in my hands. They would lounge in my hand with their feet stretched out behind them and fall asleep. Now, they freak out if I even get within 10 feet of them sometimes. They are definitely NOT lap birds like the chickens!


Speaking of them, I took a break from studying yesterday and took Crashie out into the yard where the Guinea coop is because the hens haven't destroyed all the grass over there (yet?). She's somewhat used to the chickens around, and she kept going in the direction of the Guineas like she wanted to see what they were doing like she does with the hens, so I walked her over there. The Guineas saw her and SCREAMED, like she was the most terrifying thing they had ever seen! This little ducky is about a fifth the size of the hens and even smaller compared to the Guinea boys, and they were sure she was going to destroy them all or something!

I didn't get much of a break before it started raining, though. But I digress. I definitely had too much Easter candy yesterday while I was sitting around with my books. On the plus side, I'm pretty sure I aced that test for all the work I put into studying! And, I don't have any homework to do for this week now, so I guess I'll just have to use some of that time for picture taking!

I'd be careful trying to figure out what they are at such a young age. I have never had a silkie, but I learned my lesson with my Orps. A few of my girls had massive feet, sometimes bigger then the boys and people thought they were boys

Haha, yeah, I always drive myself nuts with guessing chick genders! And I never learn from how wrong I am. I guess I should stop while I'm ahead! With the Silkie babies, at least, I'm safe from the 'rooster paranoia' I often suffer from. I actually WANT boys, so I have no reason to be disappointed or upset if they are boys this time!

Ah, I was so busy enjoying my peaceful day after spending all day studying yesterday that by the time I went out to take pictures of the babies, Mama had taken them to bed already! She is so stingy! I kind of knew it would happen by the time I thought to get pictures of them, though, because she takes them to bed so early! Oh, well. Here are a few pics of the big girls.

Nice pics of the girls and Rueben. I love your variety of chickens. You almost have one of every breed of chicken there is.

That's great that you don't mind hatching roos. Are you going to keep them all?

I would love to see pics of your keets. I know what you mean about sticking their legs out while their asleep. I've seen ours do and it looks so funny.We have a chain link fence around our yard and they will be able to see threw it. Hopefully they will stay on this side of the fence. I've been trying to hold them at ;least four times a day I read it makes them more calm when they are older. We've babysitted my great grandbaby for the last two days and I haven't had much time to spend with them. She's been keeping us busy she's 18 months old and gets into everything.

Thanks for sharing the pics with us. Tell Marge she is putting those babies to bed to soon.

Haha, that's the goal! Actually, there are so many breeds that it's unbelievable! I still have a few that I need. (Yup, need.) For instance, I've never owned an Orpington. The other night, I had a dream that Mabel, my T. rex (I mean Welsummer), hatched 2 dozen Jubilee Orpington chicks and they were EVERYWHERE. I think that's a sign. I need to get some Orpington chicks.

Yup, no matter what, all four of the babies are staying. We're looking at building a rooster pen (after the addition on the coop we've been planning is done), so if any boys don't get along with each other or their daddy, they have somewhere safe to stay. My flock is positive for MG, so I wouldn't feel right rehoming any of the birds that are here.

I can't seem to find the picture I had of a keet stretched out in my hand! I did find a few pictures of them, but they're all small and not very clear. SIGH. Here's a picture of four of them resting on each other, with the closest one resting his beak on my hand. All of these keets turned out to be boys, so I do know in this case that it's a him.

These keets hatched in 2010, I believe, so these are pretty old pictures! Now I have a much better camera, so I can get much better pictures. BUT, I also have no plans on getting more keets, so that's kind of moot. Oh, well!

Anyway, speaking of my good camera, I did get pictures of the babies earlier today! I spent some time outside enjoying the nice day afterward, though, hence why I'm just getting to it here. Will upload those momentarily!

Babies! They are 2 weeks and about 5 days old today! Still as cute as ever!!

Here's Bennie and Winty! That little tuft on Winty's head is crest feathers coming in!

Bennie baby with Indi and (I believe) Winty behind. I love Bennie's eyes! They're beautiful, just like his Mama's eyes!

Speaking of Mama, I was trying to get a nice picture of her and her pretty eyes, but instead I got the dreaded derp face!

Marka always poses so nicely! Thus far, he's the only one with a black spot in his new feathers!

Got my peeps in a row! This is Bennie, Indi, and Marka. I have no idea why they were standing like this, but it's cute!!

Marka popped up, too! They're so easy to tell apart when they're together, but man do I struggle trying to figure out who's who in all of these pictures! Guess it's time for a touch-up on Winty's head spot!

And as a bonus, here is Tiwhiri, my Light Brown Leghorn, looking through the fence with horror at the babies. You were that size once, too, missy!!

She then went out and around to the window to talk to me through the wire. She never lets me get too close to her, so I thought this was funny. The babies have her so shaken up that she's coming to me for counsel!

The keets look just like mine. Thank goodness hubbie only brought home 2. I read on one of the sites about them just flopping down and going to sleep with the legs stretched out.If I hadn't read that I would have probably thought one of them was dead.

The pics of the babies are adoreable. They are growing by leaps and bounds. Their little tail feathers must grow over night. I remember when they didn't have any tail feathers now look at them. Yes Marge had that derp look on her face in that picture.

I think I have the stomach flu. This is only the second time I've been up all day. My fever has finally broke and I'm feeling better but my stomach feels really queasey.
