Pipd's Peeps!

I haven't measured the far end, but the middle is less than 80. These guys are never at the far end. They stay at the warm end and the middle. Yesterday they were all very active. Today pretty much the same, I think. I put scrambled egg in and they all devoured it. I will check to see what the temp is at the far end.

That's good to hear about Myrtle. :fl

Here's my buddy.

And, I've attached a pic of the brooder. I raised the lamp a little. So, it's about 85 at the warm end and 65 at the cool end.

Sorry. Anytime I hit the return using my phone, it acts weird with byc. I fixed it so you probably think I'm crazy. 🤡

Haha, no worries!

That all sounds good, and your babies look nice and active and healthy in that picture, so I guess just keep an eye on them for any changes better or worse.

I am begging my chickens to start laying at this point so that I can hatch some babies of my own--I might be just a little bit jealous of all that cuteness over there. :love

Myrtle really perked up when she saw me tonight, and was practically begging at my feet like she wanted me to pick her up when I entered their pen. I sat her in my lap and pulled my tube feeding syringe out to feed her, and she was pecking at it like she was hungry! She seems to know that that thing gives her food and is eager to be fed through it! I just don't know why she won't eat on her own. But she seemed more energetic tonight than she did this morning, so I'm hopeful things are starting to turn a corner. :fl

Freia just laid her first egg!! I heard an unfamiliar cackling over the monitor and went out to check, and there she was, cackling away with a fresh egg underneath her... in one of the dust baths in the dirt floor section of the coop. Oh, well, she's trying her best. :love

I'm around, just been sick with a horribly nasty cold my nephew decided to share with me so not had a lot of energy. 😩

I did confirm that Boba and Ottie are laying, which makes me wonder if one of them maybe laid that egg a while back that I speculated could be Inara's. I haven't seen Nara in the nests at all, but she's the only one who's squatted for me. 🤔 Zinnia also came back into lay in that coop, so I'm thinking about starting to collect eggs for a test hatch from that group to see how fertility is looking.

Oh, and Myrtle's still doing well, a bit thinner than I'd like and still not eating on her own for the most part, but still acting pretty normal and she has more color to her face now than she did a week ago. :fl

Feel better! I'm excited to see what your test hatch brings.

My new crew is doing as expected. Just sad that my cochin is a boy - he acts like one too. 😢 I figure at least 2 of the other oegbs are (well with your help). One looks very similar to another that has a smaller comb, but at this point, I'm not ruling it out as a boy. I'm hoping the little barred oegb is a girl, but it could just be a real slow grower. So, hopefully at least 3 of the oegbs are girls. I might just keep them all and set up a bachelor pad. 😁

As far as my bantam cochins that I'm integrating, I hope it works out. The rooster and Zuzu are enemies at this point. If I let them in the same area it's a sparring match. I'm sure Zuzu would kill him if I didn't separate at this point. Neither one of them back down. But, I watched him with all of the other birds (including the ducks) - they either run from him or he runs from them. It's just going to be a face off for the other 2. Right now they are still separated and I kept the 2 in the shed with the nasty rain we got, so maybe they haven't seen each other enough or it's just going to take much longer than anticipated. Have you ever had an integration not work?
