Pipd's Peeps!

Very small pip in one egg this evening. So I must have set pretty late on Saturday. All twelve where moving and maybe air cell piped.

Heat is ramping up so I have to get one of the half done pens completely done this weekend so I can start getting more babies out of the garage. I think with indexes we are getting triple digits. :hmm
Yay, can't wait to see them.

Yuck on that heat. 😰

I just can't believe it. Well 2 things - Lemon, my bantam cochin, is broody again this season! :thSo, I collected eggs and took her out of the nest box. I closed that one so if anyone else lays today they will have to choose a different area.
2nd - I just looked at my chicken cam to make sure she was in view and not in a different nest box (I'm being lazy, so the camera comes in handy), while looking for her I see my bantam cochin rooster, Cheddar, up on the 4' rail.
I looked back at the footage because honestly I have no idea how he would have done that. Well, he used a stump that I have in the run. The reason why he is up there is because that's where Rebel perches most of the day.
I'm considering building the oegbs their own space, but also, I am kind of physically unable to even attempt anything. :hitThere is plenty of space, but just maybe not enough for 2 roosters. Idk anymore. :barnie

I'm having to baby two of the OEGB hatch outs because they are stargazing. :hmm

Off to TSC to get vet wrap to make a stability chair. I have nutradrench and I've given the first one 2 drops and a few hrs later 2 more drops. Not even a cc. It's doing better but I think I'm going to do some yoke and water for them. It's what I did for the two I had these issues with in my Halloween hatch. Crossing fingers for it to work.

Sending good vibes. ❤️ Do you have a hatching thread so that I can see these chicks?

⬆️So it is being held upright in my hand here. I have two doing this.

⬆️ Same here.

⬆️ The makeshift stability chair made from an egg carton this time. Not as good as the solo cup one I made for the two in the Halloween hatch. But it should work.

I'm doing nutri-drench for both and will give yoke and water before bed.

Eff, one may not make it. It's acting like it got some of the liquid in its lungs. :barnie

Oh no. Hope it's ok.

What causes wry neck in new hatchlings?

Oh my. That is such a wonderful story. I'm so glad you found her. ❤️

Can't wait to see Daphne's chicks. 🥰

Yesterday I just made the Silkie girl stay in her dog crate. I had no energy to redo anything. But, today I went downstairs and found an old tablecloth that would work perfectly to cover her temporary run and give her more space. So, she got to move back again. I haven't checked since late afternoon though, so who knows if she's gotten into another predicament. If so, she might be grounded to the dog crate until quarantine is over. 😁

Fingers crossed she's been staying where she belongs :fl Naughty girl! Sounds like she's going to be quite the hand full!

On the baby pictures, sorry for the delay on those--busy few days! I'll get those posted ASAP. They're cute little bitties and sooo small! 🥰

Ugh, hope you and your birds are keeping cool, as much as possible anyway! That sounds downright brutal! 😟

Haha, Cochins and their broodying! I just had to break several of mine because I'm tapped out on places to put broodies at this point. And then Vivienne, my Black Marans, wanted to brood as well :th

Poor Rebel, with Cheddar being such a stinker. :barnie Is Rebel able to eat and drink pretty regularly at least? It may just still be spring fever and Cheddar might cool his heels a bit once we're into summer more :fl

Poor darlings, I'm so sorry you're having to go through this with them :hugs I never had such trouble with my OEGBs, so I don't really have any advice I could give beyond what you're already doing. Hopefully they're able to get themselves on their feet soon so you don't have to worry about them so much :fl

Delphine's littles! :love They were not pleased with me 🤭

And a terrible shot of them with their mama because the fence I used for them is hard to take pictures through. They're so small!! 😍

And a bit of an update on Opal and her little ones, or not so little relative to Delphine's babes. They may not biologically be Opal's chicks, but they sure got their mama's attitude anyway! Look at those faces!! 🤭

And Blue mama's babies... yeah, we're back to Blue mama. 'Ashy' just wasn't clicking for me. I keep coming back to Kya, as in Kyanite (a blue gemstone as I'd set out to name them after in the first place!), but we'll see. 🤔

Anyway, here she is with her babes. I'm like 80% sure she has 3 cockerels and just one pullet in her brood. Two of the three visible here, the ones with their heads down, are ones I'm reasonably sure are cockerels. 😩

Just one other random shot. The birds have areas clear of the trees where they can get sunlight when we have clear skies, but they always end up forming sun bath piles like this in little patches of sunlight in the woods instead 🤭 This is, working back to front, Roha and Tessa, Harriet and Rangi, Sumi and Vega, and Gwenyth.
