Pipd's Peeps!

I'm wondering if my hubby would notice if I one by one replaced my silkies with silkied cochins... he knows how much time and $ I've put into the silkies, so I'd have to be really strategic about the swap 🤣

I have a small crested hen that I'm really excited to hatch from and hopefully decrease the crest size on some of mine. I just trimmed a 13 wk old satin pullet and I thought I cut quite a bit and then I saw her in the run and she still can't see :barnie

Hopefully she has a good impact on your birds! I don't mind small crests at all, it's just those huge ones that they can't see past that I don't like.

The struggle with trimming them, ugh! I've had the same thing happen on multiple occasions. :barnie When they're young still like that, they replace feathers so fast that it feels like you're constantly trimming them back, too.

Oh my, silkied LF cochin!?! That's super tempting, I'd love that in BBS...

If they were in BBS, I'd be out the door, driving my way to get them right now 🤣 I did have a thought of crossing the Whites to my bantams and then crossing back to produce large fowl in other colors, but I have enough on my plate at the moment with what I already have going on I think

:fl hoping they can behave. ❤️ Inara sure is determined. 🥰

They have been getting along well again since Inara's time out yesterday, so so far so good... :fl This was them last night, little Judy Booty baby peeking out there. The other baby was in the back under Inara (hen on the right)'s chest.

Picture of the day today, this is day... 16? Yes, 16! 🤭

I don't really have any recent pictures of Winter, and he was posing so nicely. Looks like he's starting into his molt already, too, though!

Runners up today are Fifi and her currently quite scraggly beard, being nosy because I crouched down for Winter's picture

And miss Nora, who decided she'd also be a little nosy today :love

You have all my favorite things captured today, silkies, beards, and silkie feathers. 😁

I'm glad your girls are getting along well again ❤

Speaking of eye trims, I trimmed them all again last night. My 18 wk old silkie cockerel must have been a bit blinded by his crest. I had to go pick him up out of the run where he was just standing there when everyone else was out and about in the yard. As soon as I put him down after doing the trim, he set his sights on the nearest lady and went to dancing and chasing :th he has decided he REALLY likes the large fowl ladies, the bigger the better. Especially my two big black EE girls, wowza, he thinks they are something special :lau he dances his little heart out for them.

He's still being polite though, so he can stay with the growout group. As they lose their manners they get moved into the bachelor pen.

Haha, glad I could deliver on all that from my flock! 😁

Haha, the boys all seem to have their tastes! Winter from my last post only seems to have eyes for silkied hens, whether they're Silkies, Cochins, or mixes. Pete, meanwhile, likes any of the that are close to his size with a preference for the feather-legged ladies, and Mallow sets his sights a bit high by only wanting to breed the Silkie x Cochin mixes, who are still too big for him to actually do anything with despite their petite size 🤭 I'll bet that your cockerel would make some mighty cute chicks with EE hens ;)

Good that he's polite! I haven't been bitten by any of my boys in a few days, so hopefully that means Mr. Bitey Butt has grown out of that habit :tongue

Picture of the day, day 17! None of the pictures I took this morning turned out very good, so I'm giving it to Juniper being as spherical as chickenly possible 🤭

For runners up, we have Opal and her babes again. I suspect Opal may be coming out of broodying already. She's not chasing them off or anything and did cover them last night and allowed some of them to tuck under her this morning (though she didn't exactly fluff out for them as she used to). But she laid an egg yesterday, and I haven't heard her actively clucking for her babes in a few days... I don't like mamas who quit so early 😟

Last is a couple of Kya's babes, two of her cockerels. I was trying to get a picture of the Blue boy in the back because he's feathering in a lovely lighter Blue color, but of course the adjustments the camera automatically made don't show that well. Kya is still in full mama mode and was giving me dirty looks just outside of frame, here.

I'm glad your Mr Bitey Butt had cooked a bit. Mine has decided boots are for rapid pecking, right down my the floor, not high up. He just hammers away  then he's all good to pet.

🤔 I have a white EE hen with a couple black flecks, what's the chances she's DW? I could make some funky paints 🤣

Maybe I'll cross my chocolate frizzle silkie over an EE and see if I can get a chocolate satin EE.
