Pipd's Peeps!

Gwyneth certainly has the look of disdain. 🤣

She was so sick of me when I finally got that picture of her 🤭

Love the co-mamas. They must have realized that you meant business.

I'm so glad they did! I was not looking forward to trying to separate them 😬

Big ball of tangled up, Chicken obsessed anxiety, are you my long lost sister!?! :celebrate I'm doing better than I was a few months ago, I thankfully got a less stressful job and that has helped a lot.

That's good to hear! I think I remember you mentioning you were switching jobs because of stress, so it's good to hear you're at a better place now! :hugs

Us chicken-obsessed high-anxiety people gotta stick together :highfive:

What will you be crossing Mr Freedom with?

Gwenyth and probably Peanut Butter. Gwennie I just want more little naked neck weirdos in my flock like her. 🤭 And PB is such a sweetheart, and she's both Roscoe and Reuben's granddaughter so I'd like to keep their genetics going in my mixed flock now that both of them are gone. Their babies will be beyond adorable! 🥰

Yep, gotta stick together!

Oh cool, so completely "for fun" mixes without an agenda on what you want the outcome to be other than just adorable chickens!

Well, a bit of sad news. I've decided to find a new home for my bantam cochins. Cheddar is now not letting Rebel eat. He is roosting most of the day. He will eat when I'm out there. But, just a bit ago, I watched Cheddar try to jump up from the ground (because I moved the stump that he had been using) to the 4' rail to knock Rebel down.
If you know of anyone in the northern part of the state looking for a nice bantam cochin pair, let me know.
I've really thought out all of my options and I think this is the best one for me and the flock. :(

Also, ZuZu my EE is acting a bit off. She is 6 yrs old and the top of the flock. She's been more reserved and quiet. I've checked her over. Nothing going on. A bit of runny poo - and I had not wormed yet this year, so just did that. She's been shaking her head a little more than normal. I've looked her all over (checked her ears, eyes, etc.) and can't find anything. She started acting weird a month or so ago - wouldn't come in when called, but I just thought it was her being stubborn. I guess it's just a wait and see right now.

Sad news for me today. Lost one of the grow outs. Nor sure from what other than heat. It may have aspirated some water. Was right next too the waterer and it was alive last night. Crop was empty when I checked it on the deceased bird and weight was actually picking up on it.

I'm going to treat them for coccidia tho just to be safe. They did get moved to actual ground contact and we do have several strains of it. I don't think that's what killed it tho. I think it was the heat. It's been very bad here.

Sorry to hear that. :hugs

:hugs Sometimes temperaments just clash and things don't work out. You did everything you could for them, and now you're making the responsible decision to solve for peace in the flock. I'm sorry that means you have to rehome your Cochins, though. I know you've had to do a lot of quarantining already this year so I'd understand if you're just done with that for a while, but if you ever just wanted another Cochin bantam hen or two for your flock, feel free to reach out to me. I have a few to spare around here anyway. ;)

Sorry to hear about ZuZu as well. :hugs Hopefully she perks up after the worming. It's so hard to know what to do for them when they have so few symptoms to go off of. 😕

Ugh, I'm so sorry to hear that as well! :hugs That heat y'all get down there is just awful. Hopefully they do okay with the coccidiosis treatment. If they're having issues from something else, then knocking the coccidia population down some so that their immune systems can focus elsewhere can't hurt. :fl

Day 26 picture of the day! It's an Easter-egger loaf. 🤭 To be honest, I'm mostly just surprised that Dym let me approach to take this picture and didn't take off beforehand.

Just one runner up today. Pete was following me around out there so I turned around to ask him what the heck he wanted and he gave me his best impression of this emoji: 🥺

I'm sorry for your loss, this heat has been brutal, I lost 2 on Thursday, not 100% sure why, the one was a pullet that just hasn't been growing right, and the other was a silkie rooster, I don't know if the fireworks, or thunderstorm scared him or what.

This summer has been rough, 10 to 15 degrees hotter than normal with all the typical high humidity.
