Pipd's Peeps!

Here's my poor Olive girl. I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere with this abcess yet. I just created a thread to see if anyone has other suggestions, but maybe I will have to take her to the vet. I don't even know if vets around here see chickens. 😭

I have one I'm treating for dog bites. In the house with me in a toat. Sprayed all the wounds down with vetracin.

Hope you start seeing improvements in her or that we have someone on here that can give advice on it before you have to seek out a vet.

So, me and my brother have a plan for pens. We are going to finish out what I have material for then start having sand hauled in on the left side of the yard and get chain link fencing company to build out eight 9x20 pens that are 6ft tall and have tops. No more not being prepared. Also going to setup the ridiculous electric fence as well. Also getting a shed that's 10x16 for chicken stuff and turning the one heavy duty hoopcoop into a chick hatching and growing shed.

Will be useing the small backyard for the grow outs as well.
That sounds like quite the project.

She seems OK, but her poo has me a little bit concerned. She also doesn't like to be crated. She would rather be with her pals. But, I just need to see that she's eating enough right now.

Have you tried covering the crate with a towl or sheet? That's what I do with mine that don't like it.

I don't blame you. Those little pests give me the hebegeebees - I don't care if they are species specific. I should probably get some elector psp. It sounds easier to do than dusting all of the birds.

For sure! The good news is that I didn't see any mites on Rangi at all last night! In fact, I only saw two live mites on Lydda and I didn't see any on anyone else, though I did have one on my hand after checking Pete's bum. Hoping they'll be pretty much gone tonight! :fl

The elector is expensive, but it does feel like it's a lot easier than any other treatment I've done and much more effective than anything else as well. Technically, I make it harder than I need to; the instructions just say to generally spray over the birds, focusing on the vent, but I pick each and every one of them up and spray directly on and around the vent a few times and once or twice under both wings. It got easier when I realized that holding them by their feet made them both open their vent feathers a little and let their wings hang open, so it's pick up, grab feet, calm the bird down, spray real quick, and back on the perch, just a minute or two per bird. It still gets quite tiring with my 100+ birds, but a lot easier than trying to pin them down and spray! I also finish out by spraying over the birds on the roost and around the coop to be safe. The only other catch with it is you really can't use it in cold temperatures because of it being a water-mixed treatment, but this time of year it's easy peasy!

I just love oegbs. ❤️
What is Vega? I imagine Sumi is a Dutch oegb.

Vega and Sumi are both variations of Silver Duckwing. Sumi is the base Silver Duckwing and Vega is the dun dilution of it, called Fawn Silver Duckwing. Basically, she just has a gene that turns all her black pigment to brown. 🙂

Sigh the neighbor let their dog out off leash even tho they have fence damage! Now I've lost more chickens! I had to kill my polish pullet because the damage was to grate to fix!

Damage is all the way in the back so I'm hitting TSC and getting electric fence posts and wire and a hevyist hitting electric fence charger I can that is solar. Or if it happens again I'm killing a dog. I'm angry numbe right now.

:barnie:he:mad::hit

Aw, no, that's terrible!! :hugs Ugh, you've really been through it lately with your birds! I'm so sorry that happened! 🙁

On a better note I have sold my first fertile eggs at $1 an egg to someone with a broody a town over.

Congrats on the egg sale, though! That's cool! :D I keep wanting to get into selling fertile eggs for hatching, but then I always chicken out for one reason or another.

Oof, poor thing! I hope someone has advice to give you on your thread, I've never seen anything like that. :hmm I wish I could help you find a vet for her around here, but the couple that I've spoken to in the area that are even willing to see chickens don't seem to even know all that much about them, unfortunately.

Wow, sounds like quite the compound!! I'd love to see picture updates as you go! I'll be jealous of all those sturdy coops and pens :drool

Day 33 picture of the day. I finally got a halfways decent shot of Sylvie! :love

And the runner up is just Rangi being nosy again.

That was one of my questions - now I know how many birds you have. 😊

Oof, forgot to hit reply button, so this was all typed last night. 😂

I got an answer. It's mostly to keep doing what I'm doing, but also I need to get her some antibiotics. I will continue treating and call around on Monday.
Maybe if I get the gunk out and tell them (show pics as well) of what I've done they will prescribe an antibiotic? Probably not, but it's worth a try.

Olive was being a stink pot tonight. I used qtips dipped in peroxide or coconut oil and while trying to use them, she would grab it right out of my hand and throw it down. 🤣 I know she's getting tired of me now.
I'm going to keep her crated for now even though I know she doesn't like to be alone.

Sylvie is very pretty!
Sylvie is gorgeous, and how can you resist that face!?!

Sylvie is a cutie, but man is she ever stubborn about letting me take her picture!

Haha, close enough, anyway! The actual count is 104... I think. 🤔 But that's if I count all of the birds currently residing in my coops, including the duck, and the chicks, and the adults that I won't be keeping if my ads ever garner any interest. Without the extras, it's probably closer to ~80 permanent residents at the moment, really depending on how many of the youngsters hatched this year that I end up holding on to.

She sounds like she's done with the whole process! 🤭 The stinker!

Yeah, you'd almost have to go through a vet for the kind of antibiotic you'd need. Pretty much every antibiotic that was available OTC for chickens was pulled off the shelves, but it was also pretty much all respiratory antibiotics anyway, so probably useless for something like this. I do believe that vets can't prescribe anything without actually seeing the animal in person, though, so you're right that you'd probably not be able to get anything just through describing and sending pictures. :hmm

Does her crate have much room in it? Maybe you could bring in a buddy for her if she gets along with anyone particularly well? Then if her treatment time ends up being very long, she at least has someone to reintegrate into your flock with as well.
