Pipd's Peeps!

Is Ameretto a silkie x cochin? She's cute 🥰

She is! Her father is Winter, my last Silkie boy, and her mother was Abra, my one partridgey silkied Cochin out of my Reds.

She's actually Peanut Butter's full sibling, but Amaretto inherited dominant white from her dad and that faded her skin color so she doesn't have as much of that Silkie look to her as PB does. A lot of people think PB is a pure Silkie, but she's actually a mix, too!

Ooh. A Judy baby! Maybe he's like my one bantam boy, he tries SOOOO hard to be a big boy, he stands up as tall as he can and ends up pushing his wings down. I have caught him relaxed and holding his wings acceptably so I think it's just his stancing.

Haha, most of my rotten Cochin boys are the same exact way!! If I look at them from a distance, they usually have beautiful wing carriage, but as soon as they notice me looking, they've got to be show-offs and drop their wings. I try not to judge them too harshly on that unless I need to be extra nitpicky to narrow my choices down more.

It's been crazy here, today, so I'm just checking in with today's picture of the day and then I'm probably out again for the day, sorry for the shortness!

Today is day 51! It's been humid and seems to be threatening rain off and on (though nothing has come of it yet :idunno ), so we're hanging out near shelter today rather than wander too far from the coop. This is Ganymede, Roxanne, poor tailless Mallow, Harriet, Sylvie, and Ida hanging out under one of the window boxes by the house.

Picture of the day 52! Feels like I was just posting picture 51! 😵‍💫

Anyway, Perdita was definitely not trying to eat out of the little feeder that's meant to give the youngsters a place to eat while the adults occupy the big feed pans, she would never.

The runner up for today is Findlay and Freia sitting in a bush, p-r-e-e-n-i-n-g... Err, never mind, that didn't work like I thought it would. :duc 🤣

Big ole x2 to what Maizie said! Beautiful birds!! 😍

I'm checking in late today with my own birds. Spent much of the day away from the house and it's been raining off and on pretty much since I got back. I did grab my pictures of the day between bouts of rain several hours ago, though!

Picture of the day 53... I'm calling it a 3-way tie! Three soggy birds that don't know enough to get in out of the rain apparently!

And one runner up of Ganymede, who said forget this weather and just went to bed early. 🤭

...And I'm back again! Picture of the day 54 is going to Opal's girls hanging out in their little section in the corner. I still can't believe Opal hatched 5 chicks and all 5 were pullets!

And I don't know if this counts for a runner up or not, it's not a bird but is related... But I found this really cool feather from one of the silkied Cochins and wanted to share it. :D

For sure! Opal definitely isn't typey enough to go into the breeding program, but shoot, if she's gonna hatch all pullets, she can stick around! 🤭

My friend who named PB wants me to name one of her chicks Jelly! PB hatched a Blue chick last year that I would have done so with, but it was a cockerel I didn't end up keeping. :hmm But if I cross her to Birch next year along with Gwenyth, she should produce more blue babies, so hopefully we'll get our little Jelly. :fl

Picture of the day 55! For days, I kept thinking Rowena would be a good choice for a picture because it'd been a long time since I'd taken one of her, but every morning she goes out under the bushes and parks where I can't get to her for a good shot. I managed this one from a distance, so... Close enough? :idunno She looks very much tired of me bothering her. 🤭

For runners up, I have a whole bunch of nosy birds that kept getting in the way of my picture of Rowena. Fifi:
