Pipd's Peeps!

Yeah, I find I prefer my extra fluffy chickens in miniature. The Orpingtons are impressive, but not my taste. I actually only got those hatching eggs for my mom, who loves the cuddliness of large fowl Orpingtons, but the only one I have at the moment is a hatchery Blue (Izzy) who is not very human-friendly. Then they all hatched out male so it was a wash anyway because I can't keep a gigantic rooster in my mixed flock with eensy tiny bantam hens. :barnie

I ought to try again, though. My family (well, my sister who does most of the cooking) is always carrying on about wanting more large eggs. I mostly get bantam Cochin eggs these days with only a few large eggs from my remaining large fowl hens.
My two lavender American Orpingtons are very friendly with everyone! Oh and one of them is mottled! One also gets swollen feet if she tries to roost on anything smaller than a garden tember.:barnie😕

Picture of the day 49! Molting really hits my poor OEGB boys hard--half of their visual size is in those tail feathers! 🤣

Runner up, are y'all sick of seeing my silkied Cochins every day yet? 🤭 This little cutie is Kya's only pullet she hatched. I just find the little spot on her head so cute for some reason. The other side of her head is pure white/whitish-gray so it's just that one little blotch there.

Never too many Silkied photos! Especially splash 😍

I have a couple silkies that have started molting 🤭 is amazing how their feathers really define how we see them and then they molt and look like your poor OEGB boy, hehe.

Yeah, my Lavender was the sweetest, cuddliest hen. I may have mentioned this, she was the one that loved people so much that she'd sit in the middle of everyone rather than play favorites and sit in someones lap if a group of us was outside. :love I really do miss that hen, but of course I worry if I get another one that she won't live up to that.

That's super weird about the one getting swollen feet, though! I wonder what would cause that! 🤔 Is she particularly old? My old, old, old Easter-egger, Merlin, gets swollen feet sometimes, but she's 14 years old so I figured it was age related.

Haha, I agree! I love all things fuzzy feathered, the more I see of them the better 😍

For real on the molting! The OEGBs look particularly pathetic because of those huge tail feathers missing, but very few of them molt with much grace. The co-mamas, Inara and Morena, are molting right now as well, and they've gone from round fluffs to patchy, scrawny looking things, the poor darlings. 🤭

Nope she is 3 almost 4 now. I think it's also gout related. But if I keep her with the lavender Ameraucana where they have the garden tembers for roosts the swelling goes away. If she goes in with the Phoenix and Spitzhauben (they have 2x2s for roosts) the swelling will come back.

I worked on a little something fun today - it's got 3 of my favorite things. 😍

Picture of the day 50! We've come a long way for a little project I wasn't sure I'd even keep up with! 😁

Anyway, today it's Amaretto in one of her rare appearances outside of the nest box. This girl is sooo broody, but she's a terrible mama, so no babies for her! :tongue

Runner up is Judy's first son from my Easter hatch. He's shaping up pretty nicely so far! :love That wing set leaves a lot to be desired, though

Is Ameretto a silkie x cochin? She's cute 🥰

Ooh. A Judy baby! Maybe he's like my one bantam boy, he tries SOOOO hard to be a big boy, he stands up as tall as he can and ends up pushing his wings down. I have caught him relaxed and holding his wings acceptably so I think it's just his stancing.
