Does anyone know why a chick would pip and then die?

There are a number of possible reasons, including too high temps, too low humidity, and breeder flock nutritional problems. This publication has more info. It's always disappointing for a chick to get so close to hatching and then quit.

Thank you! 8 eggs out of 12 is not bad, lost 1 that pipped but didn't make it out. 3 still in that haven't pipped yet! We did have some issues with the home made incubator and transferred eggs to a hovabator still air to finish. We used the turner and module of a Nurturite 360 we picked up at a discount store and wrapped a 30gal fish tank in styrofoam and duct tape! Hatched previously in this, but issues started 6 days in and moved over on 12th day! Here are my fluffy butts more leghorns then golden laced but got me some georgous chicks
