Pipped on small end of egg

First chick has pipped on the small end of the egg about an hour ago.
Couple of questions:
1. Can he hatch on his own in this position?
2. How long to wait before assisting a breech chick?

The chick can hatch in breech just fine.

It probably won't need any help at all.

If you really want to "help" wait at least 24 hours or day 22 at the earliest. (There is some info in the incubation sticky about "help")

Just do not open the bator from the first pip till the last hatch or you may cause the pipped to dry out and thus making yourself have to help a chick which could have probably done it on it's own.
