Only had 4 eggs that were viable. As of two hours ago we are on day 22. One has pipped it seems on the wrong end. It’s hard to tell just how long ago. When I woke up at 6am there were shells in the water underneath. The pip is on the underside of the egg for Pete’s sake. It got another piece of shell off around noon so now I can kind of see the hole. But it’s been 14 hours since I saw the egg shells. It’s still moving, I can see it’s beak stick out every once in a while. I don’t have a hydrometer so not sure on humidity but I can see some wet black feathers every now and again. It’s cheaper a few times but it seems to be overall a quiet chick. Ideas?

Do you see bubbles or liquid coming out and as long as the beak is out we know that the chicken is available to breathe how long since the pip

No bubbles that I can see, but the darn thing pipped on the underside so I cant see much. It’s Alberta and our air is dryer than a popcorn fart so I don’t want to open it if I don’t have to. The couple times I saw the beak it looked clean and clear. But it’s so darn hard to see because it’s literally on the bottom. I didn’t even know which egg the shell bits were from until it broke off a little more this afternoon.
I can super quickly open it a crack and sneak my hand in to turn it. Is it ok to turn it a bit? This is my first time if you can’t tell.

Ok so what I want you to do is get
Some paper towels and place then in the incubator that will help hire the humidity level quickly open it and put the towels in and turn it little bit quickly to see where the hole is. Make sure the paper towels are very warm and put them in there ASAP

Wait a little longer and see if the check packs more of the shell and make sure you put more warm wet paper towels if you don't know the humidity humidity is very important

I asked a really similar question a few days ago. The nice people here guided me through a full assist hatch and the baby is thriving. Good luck!! You can do it!

I read your thread first actually. Super impressed with your mad chick-momma skills!

I used to come on here years ago but more with just the grown chicken threads. This is our first time hatching. I told my husband it’s for “homeschooling” so he had to agree.
We started with 19 eggs, 15 were infertile at day 8. The last four have been growing and moving all the way until lockdown on day 18. Not sure why this is the only one doing anything.
